Pukemokemoke

The Hill Standing Alone

Pukemokemoke is a 40ha forest remnant at Tauhei approximately 30km north of Hamilton on Tauhei Road. The bush was donated by David Johnstone as a private reserve and is administered by the David Johnstone Pukemokemoke Bush Trust and managed by local Trustees.

The bush reserve contains over 300 species of native trees including matai, kahikatea, rimu, totara and a kauri grove. The summit loop track leads to a viewing platform that provides views of Mt Te Aroha, Mt Pirongia and the Hakarimatas. At the base of the maunga is the log hauler site, perfect for a picnic.

Find out about our projects, get involved by joining Friends of Pukemokemoke, learn about the Waikato Environmental Education Fund, and please contact us with any comments or questions.
